At the edge of Amsterdam, in its greenest neighborhood Gein, we, Alvin and Koen Smit-Amor, welcome you into our lovely home. With the Gein metro station a few minutes from our house, it’s just a 30 minute ride to the city center or the airport. And if you have seen enough in Amsterdam city center, walk 2 minutes in the opposite direction and you find yourself in a big nature reserve where you can take a stroll. Or walk to the Gaasperplas, a recreational lake just 10 minutes to the north. You can also walk 20 minutes to the local cheese farm to buy some authentic Dutch cheese. And after a 5 minute metro ride, go shopping in the Amsterdamse Poort near Bijlmer Arena station. Where you can also check out the latest (subtitled!) movies in the Pathe cinema. And are you here for a conference? The RAI conference center is 25 minutes away. We also have a grocery store and other small shops on the other side of the metro station where you can buy your essentials. Ask us anytime, we can help you with whatever you need.
Explore
Amsterdam canals are famous and a canal cruise is definitely something you have to do. Because the city center is quite small, you can do most exploring by foot. And if you get tired, you can always take a tram or metro. Check out the busy streets in the Red Light district or chill in the parks around the center. Do you like museums? Rijksmuseum, Hermitage or van Gogh museum are popular spots to go to. Or take the free ferry over the IJ river at the back of Central Station and visit the Eye Film museum there. You should book tickets to most museums in advance online.
Relax
After walking through the city, there are numerous lunchrooms or restaurants where you can sit down, relax and enjoy all kinds of different cuisine. As a trading country, the Netherlands pride themselves on having restaurants with food from all over the world. If you really want something special, don’t go to the touristic ones, but look for smaller restaurants in the small streets around the canals. Where the locals from all different cultural backgrounds will make your eating experience be great.
Rest
And when you’re ready to come home, your room will be waiting for you. You can read a book or magazine with a nice hot cup of coffee or tea, enjoy one of the many streaming services we provide on your smart tv, smoke whatever you want to smoke on the balcony or just rest and enjoy the quiet suburbs. And enjoy the fantastic shower and a very comfortabel bed. It will be a nice alternative to the crowded city. Rest and prepare your body and mind for your next day in Amsterdam.
Important notes
- The room is on the top floor of our house, there are two flights of stairs to go up (with your luggage), unfortunately this is not suitable for guests who have difficulties with using stairs.
- We try to be as sustainable as possible, by limiting the use of plastic, separating waste, refilling soap and shampoo bottles and reuse towels. We would appreciate it if you can comply with this too.
- We follow the safety regulations of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
- We have two cats, Michael & Jackson, they are not allowed to go upstairs, so the areas you will access are cat-free and should not be any problem for guests who suffer from cat related allergies.
